1. Commitment to Personal Data Protection

The Bibliothèque Communale de Saint Sorlin en Valloire is deeply dedicated to preserving the trust, anonymity, and intellectual freedom of our patrons and web visitors. In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 (General Data Protection Regulation - GDPR / RGPD) and the French Law n° 78-17 of 6 January 1978 as amended relating to information technology, data files, and civil liberties (Loi Informatique et Libertés), this privacy policy transparently details how we collect, process, and safeguard your personal information.

4. Intellectual Freedom & Borrowing Privacy

The association holds that what a citizen chooses to read, explore, or investigate is a private matter vital to the democratic health of a free society. In line with the principles of the UNESCO Public Library Manifesto and the French Code du Patrimoine:

  • Borrowing histories are linked to patron accounts only during the duration of an active loan.
  • Once a book, album, or game is returned to circulation in good condition, the historical link between the patron's identity and that specific work is permanently erased from our circulation system.
  • We never compile, monetize, or disclose behavioral reading profiles to any commercial, religious, or political entity.

5. Absolute Prohibition on Commercial Data Exploitation

Under no circumstances does the Bibliothèque Communale de Saint Sorlin en Valloire sell, lease, rent, trade, or transfer personal data to third-party advertisers, commercial data brokers, marketing agencies, or corporate entities. Our non-profit portal contains zero third-party tracking pixels, zero commercial advertising networks, and zero social media tracking scripts.

6. Data Retention Schedules (Durée de Conservation)

We retain personal data strictly for periods proportionate to the operational objectives:

  • Contact Form Inquiries: Stored for the time required to answer and resolve the inquiry, and purged within a maximum of 12 months following last contact.
  • Volunteer Application Dossiers: Retained for active volunteers throughout their period of service. For unselected applicants, data is deleted within 6 months unless the applicant consents to talent pool retention.
  • Patron Membership Records: Maintained for the duration of active subscription plus one year after non-renewal to permit account reactivations and statutory audit reporting.
  • Technical Server Connection Logs: Retained for a rolling statutory period of 12 months in compliance with French decree n° 2021-1362 for security auditing, after which logs are automatically purged.

7. Your Statutory Rights Under the GDPR

In accordance with Articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR, every individual whose data is processed by our association enjoys full exercise of the following fundamental rights:

  • Right of Access (Art. 15): You have the right to request a complete copy of all personal information held about you by the association.
  • Right to Rectification (Art. 16): You may request the immediate correction of inaccurate or incomplete contact details.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten - Art. 17): You may request the deletion of your personal records, subject to any statutory retention obligations under French accounting law.
  • Right to Restriction of Processing (Art. 18): You may request that your data be temporarily frozen during the verification of a dispute.
  • Right to Data Portability (Art. 20): You may request your patron registration data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object (Art. 21): You have the right to object at any time to the processing of your personal information.
